Video of the OHSW presentation

I have finally managed to upload the video of my presentation at the Open Hard & Software Workshop.

Have fun:

First day at Open Hard- and Software Workshop in Munich

Yesterday was the first day of two of the Open Hard- and Software Workshop (www.ohsw.de)  in Munich. My first reason to attend it, was to meet the guys from the GTA04 project again. But now I am presentating my LCD Multitouch table there.

The day started with a presentation of Nikolaus Schaller about the status of the GTA04 project.

After him,  I had my presentation. You find the slides here: OHSW Präsentation MultiTouch Couch Tisch.

There will be also a video of it, but I didn’t looked at it to see how good it is.  If it is ok, I will upload it to Youtube.
At the afternoon, we also saw a presentation about SHR, the programming language Vala  and an extension board for the Freerunner for RFID/NFC.

In the evening we sat together and had nice chats about various open source topics.

Let’s have a look, what the second day will bring.

New Video of Multitouch Couch Table

2011/11/21 1 comment

In preperation for the Open Hard- and Software Workshop (www.ohsw.de) in Munich on 2nd-4th December I created a new video of my multitouch couch table.

This time it runs Bodhi Linux 1.2.0

The disappearing PS3Eye

If you have the situation that after some minutes of inactivity the webcam disappears from your system (not displayed on lsusb), deactivate the usb powermanagement.

To do this make following: echo on > /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb[bus of usb port]/power/control

This blog post was entered on my multitouch couch table. 😉

I recognized that I promised a video of Windows 8 in multitouch action.

Here is is:

Some pics from my multitouch couch table

At the weekend I finished the look of my multitouch couch table.

Here are some pictures from it:

Stay tuned for more infos about it.

Updated ebuilds for uTouch

5 minutes ago, I pushed new ebuilds for Xorg 1.10.4 in my repository.

For a newer Xorg version, there will no ebuilds available until the uTouch guys port there stuff to that version.
Currently the next Ubuntu version 12.04 still uses Xorg 1.10.4, so this is looking bad at the moment.

But have fun with the new ebuilds and please report any problems with them.

Windows 8 on multi touch coffee table

Last wednesday Microsoft published a developer preview of Windows 8. You can get it here.

After trying it out on my Acer 1825PTZ  I decided to put it on my self build multi touch coffee table.

4 hours installing and configuring CCV and Bsqsimulator I got it running. And I was impressed.
The new metro ui works perfect at touchscreens. I couldn’t really stop sitting at the table and “touching” everything.

I plan to do some videos in the next week to show a little bit more, than this one screenshot.

When you see the stuff in live action, you know why I definitely want something like that on the Linux desktop!

Switching disto, again …

Because of the buying of my Acer Aspire 1825PTZ I switched from Ubuntu to Gentoo to get the hardware working.
That was also the reason why I ported the uTouch stack to Gentoo. To use the nice multitouch screen :-).

But time changes and with 3 systems running Gentoo, it takes me too much time to keep them running.

Some weeks ago I found a distribution called Bodhi Linux. It is based on Ubuntu 10.04 and uses E17 as window manager.
This will be my new used distribution.

Sadly it used a rather “old” xorg server (version 1.9). So my first work is to get the normal 1.10 ported and the get also uTouch working there.
With this work, I will update my ebuilds and the patches to the 1.10.4 xorg version for Gentoo.
